Comparison

Qur'an 6:151–153 and the Ten Commandments

Published 28 June 2026

A careful comparison that does not claim the Qur'an itself labels the passage a second Decalogue.

Why the passages are compared

Both combine religious allegiance with duties concerning life, family, sexuality, property, testimony and social order.

Why the title needs caution

Qur'an 6:151–153 is not internally titled the Ten Commandments. The number ten results from a later way of dividing its connected clauses.

Ethical comparison

The comparison is most useful when each instruction is examined separately rather than using similarity to establish divine origin or equal moral authority.
